Yes. Planet Fitness has showers and locker rooms at its clubs, making it possible to clean up before work, after a workout, or before continuing with the rest of your day.
Planet Fitness lists both locker rooms and showers among its standard club amenities, although individual amenities can still be subject to local availability and restrictions.
The important part many first-time members miss is this:
You should bring your own towel, soap, shampoo, shower shoes, and lock.
Planet Fitness’s own first-visit guidance specifically tells members who plan to shower to bring a:
- Towel
- Shampoo
- Soap
It also recommends shower shoes, and Planet Fitness says hair dryers are available in its locker rooms.
This guide covers exactly what to expect from Planet Fitness showers in 2026, including:
- Whether showers are free
- Whether Classic members can use them
- Whether PF Black Card guests can shower
- Whether towels are supplied
- Whether soap and shampoo are supplied
- Hair dryers
- Lockers
- Privacy
- Using Planet Fitness primarily for a shower
- What to pack
Quick Answer
Yes, Planet Fitness has showers.
Planet Fitness officially lists showers and locker rooms as club amenities. (Planet Fitness)
For most members, shower access is part of using the gym rather than a separate paid Black Card Spa feature.
For a trouble-free visit, bring your own:
- Towel
- Soap or body wash
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Shower shoes
- Change of clothes
- Lock for a locker
Planet Fitness also says there are hair dryers in its locker rooms. (Planet Fitness)
Because Planet Fitness locations are largely franchise-operated and amenities can vary, check your specific club if something such as stall layout, toiletries, or accessibility features matters to you.
Does Planet Fitness Have Showers?
Yes.
Planet Fitness’s official club-amenities page lists:
- Locker rooms
- Showers
among the amenities available at its clubs.
Planet Fitness also tells first-time visitors that after a workout they can “cool down with a shower” and reminds them to bring their own towel, shampoo, and soap. (Planet Fitness)
So shower access is not an unofficial perk or something found at only a handful of clubs.
It is a normal part of the Planet Fitness gym experience.
Do All Planet Fitness Locations Have Showers?
Planet Fitness presents showers as a standard club amenity, but it also states that amenities and perks are subject to availability and restrictions and recommends checking with your home club for details.
That distinction matters because Planet Fitness has thousands of clubs, many operated by franchisees.
A specific location can differ in terms of:
- Number of showers
- Locker-room layout
- Accessible shower facilities
- Shower stall design
- Temporary maintenance closures
- Local operating hours
If you are choosing a gym specifically because you need dependable shower access, confirm with that club before joining.
Are Planet Fitness Showers Free?
For members using a club they are entitled to access, there is generally no separate shower charge listed by Planet Fitness.
Showers are presented as part of the gym’s regular locker-room amenities rather than a premium PF Black Card Spa benefit.
The premium Black Card features Planet Fitness separately advertises include amenities such as:
- HydroMassage
- Massage chairs
- Tanning
- Total Body Enhancement at participating clubs
Showers are not listed among those exclusive Black Card Spa perks. (Planet Fitness Memberships)
So you should not need to pay an additional per-shower fee simply to shower at your regular club.
Can Classic Members Use Planet Fitness Showers?
Yes, in general.
A Classic membership provides access to your home club, while the PF Black Card provides broader access to Planet Fitness locations and additional perks.
Because shower and locker-room facilities are club amenities rather than Black Card Spa benefits, Classic members can use the showers at their home club while they have valid club access.
Planet Fitness currently distinguishes its membership tiers mainly by benefits such as:
- Access to other Planet Fitness locations
- Bringing a guest
- Massage amenities
- Tanning
- Other PF Black Card perks
not basic locker-room shower access. (Planet Fitness)
Can PF Black Card Members Use Showers at Other Planet Fitness Locations?
Generally, yes.
The PF Black Card includes access to Planet Fitness clubs beyond your home location.
Planet Fitness states that Black Card members receive access to its locations worldwide, subject to membership terms and local restrictions. (Planet Fitness)
That makes the membership particularly useful for people who:
- Travel frequently
- Work in multiple cities
- Exercise away from home
- Need a shower while traveling
If shower availability is the specific reason for your visit, however, checking the location’s amenities before arriving is still sensible.
Can a Planet Fitness Black Card Guest Use the Showers?
Planet Fitness allows a PF Black Card member to bring a guest, and its customer-service rules classify PF Black Card guests as permitted club users.
That means a guest can generally use the club while visiting with the Black Card member, subject to the applicable guest and local club rules. (Planet Fitness Customer Service)
Because local policies can vary, guests who specifically need shower access should confirm at the front desk.
Does Planet Fitness Have Free Showers?
This is essentially the same question as whether Planet Fitness charges separately for shower access.
For an eligible member using the club under their membership, Planet Fitness does not list showers as a separate paid service.
So in practical terms:
Yes, shower use is included with club access rather than sold as a separate shower service.
That does not mean anyone can simply walk into a club and shower for free.
Club use is generally restricted to:
- Members
- Eligible PF Black Card guests
- Day-fee users where available
- People using an authorized pass or promotion
Planet Fitness outlines those categories in its official club-use rules. (Planet Fitness)
Can You Use Planet Fitness Just to Shower?
If you have valid access to the club, there is generally nothing unusual about entering primarily to use the locker room and shower.
This can be useful for:
- Travelers
- Commuters
- People working out elsewhere outdoors
- People between appointments
- Van or road travelers
- Members experiencing temporary plumbing problems at home
However, Planet Fitness is still a fitness club, not a public shower facility.
You need legitimate club access.
Non-members cannot normally walk in solely because they want a shower unless that location offers a permitted day pass, day fee, promotion, or other authorized access.
Planet Fitness’s customer-service policy specifies which member and non-member categories may use its clubs.
Can You Shower at Planet Fitness Without Working Out?
Typically, club access—not completion of a workout—is what matters.
Planet Fitness does not publish a rule requiring members to use a treadmill, weight machine, or other equipment before using a locker-room shower.
So if you are a valid member entering an eligible club, you generally do not need to prove that you exercised before showering.
Still, follow your local club’s rules and normal locker-room etiquette.
Does Planet Fitness Provide Towels for Showers?
Do not rely on Planet Fitness providing a shower towel.
Planet Fitness’s own gym-packing guide tells users to pack a towel among their shower essentials. (Planet Fitness)
That is the clearest current official guidance.
Bring your own full-size bath towel if you plan to shower.
A small workout towel may not be enough if you need to:
- Dry your entire body
- Dry your hair
- Get dressed immediately afterward
Does Planet Fitness Supply Towels?
You should plan as though it does not.
Even if a particular club sells towels or has a local arrangement, Planet Fitness’s nationwide guidance tells members to bring their own shower towel.
This is one place where the previous version of this article was inconsistent.
It stated in one section that towels were available, then later said Planet Fitness did not provide towels.
For planning purposes, the safe and current answer is:
Bring your own towel.
Does Planet Fitness Provide Soap?
You should bring your own.
Planet Fitness’s official first-visit checklist says:
“don’t forget your towel, shampoo, and soap.”
That strongly indicates you should not assume soap will be supplied at every club. (Planet Fitness)
Some individual locations may have dispensers or supplies, but that is not something Planet Fitness tells members to depend on systemwide.
Does Planet Fitness Provide Shampoo or Conditioner?
Again, bring your own.
Planet Fitness specifically tells shower users to bring shampoo.
Its gym-essentials guide recommends keeping small bottles of your preferred shower products in your gym bag. (Planet Fitness)
A useful shower kit might include:
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Body wash
- Face cleanser
Travel-size bottles make these easier to carry.
Does Planet Fitness Have Hair Dryers?
Yes.
Planet Fitness’s official gym-essentials article states that there are hair dryers in all Planet Fitness locker rooms. (Planet Fitness)
That can be especially useful if you shower:
- Before work
- Before school
- During cold weather
- Before going directly to another appointment
Still, bringing your own dryer may be preferable if you need a particular attachment or styling capability.
Does Planet Fitness Have Lockers?
Yes.
Planet Fitness clubs have locker rooms, and lockers are available for members to store their belongings while using the facility.
Planet Fitness advises gym users to bring a lock for belongings they do not want to carry around the gym. (Planet Fitness)
A compact combination lock is usually convenient because you do not need to carry a separate key.
Does Planet Fitness Provide Locker Locks?
Do not assume so.
Planet Fitness tells gym-goers to include a lock among their gym essentials.
So bring your own lock if you want to secure:
- Phone
- Wallet
- Keys
- Clothes
- Shower supplies
- Backpack
Some clubs may sell locks, but that should not be your primary plan.
Can You Leave Things in a Planet Fitness Locker Overnight?
Planet Fitness lockers are intended primarily for use while you are in the club.
Do not assume you can use one as permanent storage.
For overnight-storage rules, check your individual club.
Leaving valuables in a gym locker unnecessarily is also not recommended.
Are Planet Fitness Showers Private?
Planet Fitness locations typically place their showers within their locker-room facilities.
The exact physical configuration can vary by club.
A location might have:
- Individual shower stalls
- Curtains
- Partitioned areas
- Separate changing areas
Planet Fitness does not publish a universal specification guaranteeing an identical shower-stall design at every club.
If shower privacy is especially important to you, tour your local club before joining.
That is more reliable than assuming every Planet Fitness location has exactly the same layout.
Does Planet Fitness Have Private Changing Rooms?
Changing arrangements can vary by location.
Locker rooms generally provide changing space, but private changing stalls or rooms should be confirmed with the specific club if you require them.
This is particularly important for members who:
- Need additional privacy
- Have accessibility needs
- Are uncomfortable changing in a shared locker-room environment
Does Planet Fitness Have Hot Showers?
Planet Fitness officially advertises its facilities simply as showers and does not publish a systemwide water-temperature guarantee.
In normal operation, gym showers are intended to provide ordinary post-workout bathing, but:
- Temperature settings
- Plumbing systems
- Temporary maintenance
- Peak demand
can vary by location.
So it is more accurate to say:
Planet Fitness has showers, but the company does not appear to publish a universal hot-water specification for every club.
If hot water is critical to your needs, confirm directly with the location.
When Can You Use Planet Fitness Showers?
Generally, you can use the locker rooms and showers while your club is open and you are eligible to access it.
Planet Fitness hours vary substantially by location.
Some clubs operate:
- 24 hours
- Extended hours
- Reduced weekend hours
Do not assume every Planet Fitness is open 24/7.
Check your club’s current hours through Planet Fitness or the PF App.
Can You Use the Showers Late at Night?
If your Planet Fitness location is open and its locker-room facilities are operating normally, members can generally use available club amenities.
But if your specific location has restricted hours or maintenance closures, access may be affected.
Always use the local club schedule rather than relying on general information about Planet Fitness.
What Should You Bring for a Planet Fitness Shower?
Planet Fitness’s own recommendations provide a good starting point.
Pack:
- Bath towel
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Soap or body wash
- Shower shoes
- Comb or brush
- Clean clothes
- Deodorant
- Locker lock
- Bag for wet clothes
Planet Fitness specifically recommends:
- Towel
- Shampoo/conditioner
- Comb or brush
- Shower cap if useful
- Shower shoes
and notes that hair dryers are available in locker rooms. (Planet Fitness)
Why Shower Shoes Are a Good Idea
Planet Fitness’s own gym checklist suggests bringing shower shoes such as flip-flops.
This is good general gym hygiene.
Communal locker-room floors are moist environments used by many people.
Wearing shower sandals or flip-flops reduces direct contact between your bare feet and shared wet flooring.
You should also avoid sharing:
- Towels
- Razors
- Personal grooming items
A Simple Planet Fitness Shower Bag
You do not need to carry a large collection of toiletries.
A practical setup could be:
| Item | Why You Need It |
|---|---|
| Towel | Planet Fitness tells members to bring one |
| Shampoo | Bring your own |
| Conditioner | Optional but useful |
| Body wash/soap | Bring your own |
| Shower shoes | Better hygiene on shared floors |
| Lock | Secure your belongings |
| Clean clothes | Change after showering |
| Deodorant | Useful after training |
| Wet bag | Keeps damp items separate |
| Comb/brush | For grooming afterward |
Keeping these items permanently packed can make it easier to shower immediately after exercising.
Can You Bring a Gym Bag Into the Locker Room?
Yes, the locker room is the logical place to store your gym bag.
Planet Fitness advises members to use a lock for belongings they do not want with them on the gym floor.
Keep your bag:
- In a locker
- Off walking paths
- Away from wet shower floors
rather than leaving it somewhere that could inconvenience other members.
Planet Fitness Shower Etiquette
Using a shared gym shower is straightforward if everyone follows a few basic rules.
Keep your shower reasonably efficient
Avoid occupying a stall much longer than necessary during busy periods.
Clean up after yourself
Take:
- Empty bottles
- Used razors
- Hair
- Other personal items
with you.
Use shower shoes
This keeps the experience more hygienic for you.
Keep personal belongings secure
Use a locker instead of leaving valuables unattended.
Respect privacy
Do not:
- Photograph people
- Record video
- Stare at other members
- Create unnecessary discomfort
in a shared changing environment.
Are Planet Fitness Showers Clean?
Planet Fitness markets its clubs as clean and spacious, but cleanliness will naturally vary somewhat by:
- Location
- Time of day
- Staff workload
- Member behavior
If you notice a hygiene problem, report it to the front desk.
No large gym chain can guarantee that every shower is spotless every minute of the day.
Bringing shower shoes and your own toiletries remains sensible even in a well-maintained facility.
Are the Showers Part of the PF Black Card Spa?
No.
The shower and locker-room area should not be confused with the PF Black Card Spa.
PF Black Card amenities can include features such as:
- HydroMassage
- Massage chairs
- Tanning
- Total Body Enhancement
depending on location.
If you are curious about one of those features, our guide to red light therapy at Planet Fitness explains the Total Body Enhancement/red-light-style experience separately.
Showering is part of normal locker-room use rather than the special recovery/spa area.
Can You Shower After Using Total Body Enhancement?
If your club has both Total Body Enhancement and showers, you can use the locker-room shower afterward as part of your normal visit.
Just remember that Total Body Enhancement is a separate Planet Fitness amenity and is not the same thing as the shower facility.
If your goal is overall fitness rather than simply using a specific gym amenity, our guide to what physical fitness means explains how strength, endurance, mobility, and other components work together.
Planet Fitness Showers vs. Black Card Amenities
| Amenity | Standard Club Facility? | Black Card-Specific? |
|---|---|---|
| Locker room | Yes | No |
| Shower | Yes | No |
| Hair dryer | Planet Fitness says available in locker rooms | No |
| Massage chairs | No | Generally Black Card |
| HydroMassage | No | Generally Black Card |
| Tanning | No | Black Card where offered |
| Total Body Enhancement | No | Black Card where offered |
| Use of other PF locations | No | Black Card benefit |
Amenities and restrictions can vary by club. (Planet Fitness Memberships)
What About the Planet Fitness Lunk Alarm?
The Lunk Alarm has nothing to do with the showers, but first-time Planet Fitness visitors often encounter both topics when researching the gym.
The Lunk Alarm is part of Planet Fitness’s effort to discourage behavior it considers intimidating, such as excessive grunting or intentionally dropping weights.
Planet Fitness explains these rules in its customer-service information. (Planet Fitness)
For more detail, see our guide on what the Lunk Alarm at Planet Fitness is.
Should You Join Planet Fitness Mainly for Shower Access?
That depends on how often you would use the gym.
Planet Fitness can be appealing to people who want:
- Gym equipment
- Locker rooms
- Showers
- Multiple locations with Black Card membership
- A relatively simple gym setup
If you frequently travel, shower access across multiple locations can be especially useful with a membership that permits visiting other Planet Fitness clubs.
But check:
- Membership cost
- Home-club rules
- Travel restrictions
- Local hours
- Local shower facilities
before joining solely for that purpose.
Should You Tour the Locker Room Before Joining?
If shower facilities are a major reason you are choosing a gym, yes.
A short tour can answer questions that no nationwide article can answer accurately for every franchise.
Check:
- Number of shower stalls
- Privacy
- Cleanliness
- Locker availability
- Hair dryers
- Accessibility
- Changing space
- Busy periods
You can also ask the staff whether anything has changed recently.

The Bottom Line
Yes, Planet Fitness has showers.
Planet Fitness officially lists both:
- Showers
- Locker rooms
among its club amenities. (Planet Fitness)
The biggest thing to remember is that the gym does not tell members to expect a fully stocked hotel-style shower.
Instead, Planet Fitness tells shower users to bring their own:
- Towel
- Shampoo
- Soap
and recommends shower shoes.
It also says hair dryers are available in Planet Fitness locker rooms. (Planet Fitness)
For most members, shower use is part of normal club access rather than an extra paid Black Card Spa service.
However, because individual Planet Fitness locations can differ, check your local club if you specifically need:
- Private stalls
- Accessibility features
- Particular operating hours
- A certain locker-room layout
- Specific toiletries
